Industrial roller bearing

When Should You Choose C3 Bearing Clearance?

C3 indicates greater-than-normal internal radial clearance before installation. It is not automatically better. The needed clearance changes with interference fits, operating temperature, speed and the internal design of the machine.

Information to confirm

  • Bearing designation and existing clearance suffix
  • Shaft and housing fit tolerances
  • Expected operating temperature difference between rings
  • Speed, preload, vibration and alignment conditions
  • Lubricant type and potential for thermal growth
  • Whether the bearing is installed in a motor, pump, gearbox, conveyor or other equipment

How to narrow the specification

Start from the actual duty point, not the equipment name alone. Check the driven load, transmission losses, operating environment and installation constraints together. Keep the nameplate requirements, mounting dimensions and local electrical supply in the enquiry so the recommended configuration can be checked before order.

Request a technical quotation

Do not replace a normal-clearance bearing with C3 solely because the machine runs hot. Send the application data and existing code with your bearing enquiry so clearance can be reviewed against the fit and temperature conditions.

For a preliminary recommendation, submit the operating conditions and any drawing or nameplate photo. Final selection must be confirmed against the complete application.
