How to Select an Industrial Centrifugal Pump by Flow, Head and Liquid

A centrifugal pump should be selected around its operating duty point, not only by inlet or outlet size. Flow, total dynamic head, liquid properties and installation details determine the correct hydraulic range and motor requirement.

Information to confirm

  • Required flow rate and preferred operating range
  • Static head, pipe losses and total dynamic head
  • Liquid type, temperature, viscosity, solids content and corrosiveness
  • Suction arrangement, available NPSH information and tank level conditions
  • Connection size, installation orientation and available footprint
  • Supply voltage, frequency and whether the pump will run continuously or intermittently

How to narrow the specification

Start from the actual duty point, not the equipment name alone. Check the driven load, transmission losses, operating environment and installation constraints together. Keep the nameplate requirements, mounting dimensions and local electrical supply in the enquiry so the recommended configuration can be checked before order.
